New England Aster - Aster novae angliae 'Purple Dome'

An Ontario native. These beautiful purple flowers are associated with the dog days of summer and the comfort of fall, as these are the peak periods when one finds the wild cousin of the New England Aster in abundance. 

New England Aster are known to reach lofty heights but this garden variety stays nice, compact, and tidy with huge masses of purple flowers popping up in late July until frost.
